Phnom Penh, June 17, 2024 – Prime Minister Hun Manet will officiate the groundbreaking ceremony for twin flyovers along Hun Sen Boulevard, marking a significant infrastructure enhancement at the juncture of Phnom Penh and Kandal province.

These flyovers, positioned at the intersection with National Road 2, represent the first major flyover project initiated under the Royal Government's seventh legislature. The project reflects the administration's commitment to urban development and infrastructure enhancement, directly overseen by the Prime Minister.

The construction, assigned to the Overseas Cambodian Investment Company (OCIC), is budgeted at $16.2 million. This funding is reallocated from the Kong Sam Ol flyover project and Koh Nora development funds. The project timeline is set for 12 months, signifying rapid progress towards easing traffic congestion.

The design features twin one-way flyovers: one extending from Hun Sen Boulevard across National Road 2 towards the new International Airport, and another from the airport crossing back over National Road 2. Each flyover will span 281 meters in length with additional approach roads measuring 180 meters on the north and 161 meters on the south, totaling 622 meters. The road width on each flyover will accommodate three lanes of one-way traffic.

Construction specifications include six bridge piers supporting seven spans with a maximum distance of 45 meters between them. Foundation columns will be drilled to depths between 35 to 45 meters to ensure structural integrity, supporting the anticipated load of up to 25 tons at a regulated speed limit of 40 km/h.

This ambitious project also encompasses significant auxiliary developments such as street lighting, traffic management systems, improved drainage, sidewalk renovations, and enhanced landscaping. This includes a green space designed to separate the twin structures, adding aesthetic value to the functionality of the infrastructure.

This initiative not only facilitates traffic flow but also enhances safety and urban aesthetics, promising a significant boost to local development and the overall connectivity of the region.
